This delicious Vegan Banana Chocolate Shake recipe is for vegans and health freaks alike. It has only three ingredients and is super easy to make!

For almost a year now, my sister and I have been gradually adopting a more vegan attitude with our meals. While we used to make shakes with frozen fruit, we recently modified the concept and created a banana chocolate shake which, to us, is almost the equivalent of a smoothie at McDonald's. This shake is simple, delicious and filling!

I have tried preparing this shake with rice milk before, and it didn't taste as well as when I used the water. I suggest just sticking with the water, unless you have some other ingredient you would rather use that would clash better with the banana and chocolate. You shouldn't need to add any sweeteners to the shake because the banana provides enough sweetness. Depending on the size of the banana, the consistency of the shake might even become thicker, which will give the shake a richer feel.

If you are the type who likes drinks on the sweeter side, you might add some honey or agave nectar to this banana chocolate shake. I've used a little honey before when I accidentally put in too much cocoa powder, and the addition of the honey did the trick. Ice is always helpful in the summer, too, especially on a broiling day, and you could add some ice to the blender when you are preparing the shake, if you desire.

Vegan Banana Chocolate Shake

This is a perfect morning drink or perhaps a mid-morning snack for vegans. No dairy or additional sugar is required.

Makes 1 to 2 cups

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and cut into thirds

Directions:

  1. Blend unsweetened cocoa powder and water together in the jar of a blender.
  2. Add banana pieces to the blender and combine banana with the cocoa mixture.
  3. After you judge the mixture to be thoroughly blended, pour the shake mixture into a tall cup or glass and serve.

Cooking Tips and Hints

  • Add about 1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee granules to the banana chocolate shake to create a mocha flavor twist.
  • If you like to put "crunchies" in your shake, you can add granola or another preferred type of cereal of your choice. These additions can make this shake a very appetizing and filling drink. Nature's Path® Organic Cornflakes is my preferred choice; it is wheat free, gluten free and sweetened only with pear juice concentrate.
